Birthing Permits

Should we start handing out birthing permits? Basically, making it illegal to have a baby unless the couple files for a special permit and goes through a full vetting process. What problems would this solve? What problems would this create?

I really don't feel like birthing permits are going to do anything but cause problems. If we start regulating birth we could a scenario like in China. China, has a rule, that parents can only have one kid. What happened was an unequal balance in gender because the dad kills his daughter because he wanted a son to carry on the family business.

I was a accident. My parents were young, and stupid. They weren't careful enough. But if there were birthing permits, either I would be illegal (yay) or never born. Although I sometimes WISH to never be born, I do value life.

We can't make having a kid illegal. That's just an issue, with no real benefits. Is this to stop overpopulation? Too late for that. Save the environment? Again, the oil execs have destroyed that already. Kid permits aren't going to help anything. They are just going to cause the tensions to rise.

Later Someone answered with this:

This should 100% be a law. This permit will show you that you are a good parent and know how to take care of a child. This will make teen pregnancy rates drop and it will also help with mass population. In order to adopt, you have to prove that you have a good home, enough money to raise a child, and to see if your actually a good parent. So why isn't that the case with birthing a child as well right? this is will drop the rates of taxes as well such as food stamps, welfare, and other things like that. Then you wont have these mom with 6 or 7 kids running around while she collects money from the government because she does not have a job and cant pay for all the children she has.

I then Asked:

What is the pill doesn't work? What if they were drunk? What happens if the condom breaks, or doesn't work? What happens if that 13 year old girl was raped?

Then what? If they don't believe in abortion then they won't get an abortion. Does that mean they're criminals now? On the run with a newborn? Or in jail with a newborn, a woman who's only crime was having a baby?

This won't stop teen pregnancy, it'll just make it more dangerous.

Having kids is a part of religion, LDS church loves babies, so do Catholics. My grandpa has 7 older siblings. Is it really the governments job to say who can and cannot have children?

ALSO how exactly would we be testing if their a good parent or not? Maturity levels? IQ scores? Behavior in school. None of these are actually going to help. Sure maybe a little bit, to make sure the kid isn't going to some idiot, but none of these are actual binding scores that we can hold people accountable for when it comes to childbirth. Are we going to give the adults who want kids an egg, and make them take care of it for a week? Because it does't work that way.

Also, what qualifies someone as a good parent? The term good parent is a relative term. People have different meanings. AND like celebrities paid their kids into good colleges, who's to say that rich people who want to carry on their family name, won't do that?

Who was right? What's your opinion?
